At the 6th Setra Grand Prix in 2005, which took place at the Nürburgring from April 1 to 3, first place was won by the Swede Tomas Isaksson of the Ramkvillabuss AB bus company, Ramkvilla. The 40 year-old achieved a total of 822 points. Second place was taken by Roland Hasler of Hasler-Reisen in Germany with 805 points and third place by Maike Wiltfang of Franz Buck Reisen in Germany, who was therefore also the winner of the lady’s ranking. Contestants from 24 European countries and the USA took part in this year’s competition, which Setra had organised under the motto "Training. Experience. Living.". A look at the first ten places, with drivers from seven different countries, illustrates the international nature of the competition.
The demanding practical exercises required perfect driving skills with modern touring coaches. During the "Safety Training", critical situations such as evasive manoeuvres on slippery road surfaces had to be mastered. In the "Economical Driving" section, all the participants had to achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption on the Grand Prix track while maintaining a high average speed.
The "Skill Circuit" required the drivers to control the coach in extreme driving situations. These practical driving exercises were supplemented with information relating to buses and coaches as a "workplace".
During the subsequent festive evening the ten best contestants were each presented with a cup, the winner was awarded the coveted Grand Prix Challenge Cup. Presenting the prizes, Setra spokesman Werner Staib praised the spirit of fairness shown by all the competitors: "The level of participation by drivers and operators from 25 nations shows the great importance of the Setra Grand Prix throughout Europe."
Each of the participants previously selected by a draw was presented with a certificate and a driver’s jacket as a memento of the occasion.
