S 8 was the brand’s first self-supporting coach in 1951
S 415 HD and S 416 HDH limited Special Edition are also present in Cologne
The Ulm brand belonging to Daimler AG celebrates its 60th anniversary this year
Stuttgart/Cologne. On the ocassion of the brand’s 60 anniversary, Setra will present the S 8, the first self-supporting coach built in 1951, as well as TopClass models S 415 HD and S 416 HDH, two vehicles of the current Special Edition, at the 2011 RDA workshop to take place in Cologne from the 26th to the 28th July 2011.
With the S 8 on exhibition, the first Setra coach with a self-supporting body, a rear-mounted engine and direct rear-axle drive, the brand – which is today the bus and coach brand of Daimler AG – ushered in a new era in bus and coachbuilding exactly 60 years ago. With the framework structure made of welded square-section tubes of this
5-ton coach for the first time it became possible to build coaches and buses in large series. At the same time the framework, reinforced with diagonal struts, showed itself to be more stable than the until then conventional coachwork superstructures mounted on truck chassis.
The S 415 HD and the S 416 HDH of the current Setra TopClass touring coach generation offer visitors to the RDA workshop the possibility to see two representatives of the Special Edition of which the brand has built a limited number to mark its 60th anniversary. With these vehicles, in their mother-of-pearl white paint finish, the brand reaches new heights in terms of exterior finish and ambience, underscoring its high standards concerning travel comfort
The S 415 HD is equipped with 44 Voyage Plus new-generation seats, which offer passengers even greater comfort thanks to additional cushioning and a special seat design. The vehicle’s dashboard and a decorative inlay in the leather-trimmed steering wheel are in matt black bird’s eye maple. The driver’s and the companion seat are in a matching finish and display the Setra logo.
The S 416 HDH offers 50 passengers the luxury of its dark-brown Voyage Plus seats, with leather headrests covered in leather piping. The decorative elements of the dashboard and the leather-trimmed steering wheel of this three-axle coach are in matt brown bird’s eye maple. As an innovative idea for the interior, both Special Edition vehicles feature a staggered seating arrangement. The seats next to the aisle are displaced towards the front by six centimetres, providing comfortable seating and even more free space at shoulder-level as well as affording a considerably better view through the coach side windows. Featuring DISTRONIC distance control and Active Brake Assist (ABA), these touring coaches offer drivers, accompanying personnel and passengers an optimum level of safety.
This year the RDA Workshop will be held in Hall 10 of the Cologne Fair. Hours of opening are Tuesday, 26. July, and Wednesday, 27. July, from 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.and Thursday 28. July, from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
