Based in Istanbul, Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş., the oldest Turkish subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG in Turkey, produces trucks, buses and coaches at three sites. Panels for all bus variants as well as the complete bodyshells for the Tourismo and Conecto models are produced at the Davutpaşa/Istanbul plant. This is also the location of the company’s headquarters. Complete Mercedes-Benz Travego SHD coaches destined for the Turkish and numerous Eastern European markets are currently built at the Hoşdere plant near Istanbul. The bodyshells for the other bus models are delivered to Hoşdere for cathodic dip priming, finishing (in the final assembly hall) and delivery to the customers. Light, medium and heavy-duty Axor and Atego trucks as well as Unimog U 4000 vehicles are built at the Aksaray plant. In addition, Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş. sells imported Mercedes-Benz Car Group vehicles and Mercedes-Benz vans on the Turkish market. The company currently employs a workforce of around 4,000.
The success story of Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş. can be traced back to 1967 when a company called „Otomarsan“ was formed as an associated company of the then Daimler Benz AG. The main shareholders in Otomarsan were Daimler Benz AG with a 36 % holding and two Turkish companies: Mengerler Ticaret T.A.Ş. (with 32 %) and Has Otomotiv (with 32 %). In 1970, just two years after production began, the company started to export its vehicles. More than 17,000 of the 42,000 buses and coaches produced since 1968 have now been sold abroad. Otomarsan was renamed Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş. in November 1990. Today Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş. is 67 % owned by DaimlerChrysler AG, whilst the Overseas Lending Corporation has an 18 % stake, Koluman Holding A.Ş. holds 7 %, Türk Silahlı Kuvvetlerini Güçlendirme Vakfı owns 5 % and Makina ve Kimya Endüstrisi Kurumu has 3 %. As part of its sales activities for all Mercedes-Benz vehicles produced in or imported to Turkey, Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş. offers a comprehensive advice and service package as early as the pre-sale phase. Following the sale, the customer can call upon the same full range of after-sales services that is available at all Western European service centres and outlets of DaimlerChrysler AG, including the supply of genuine Mercedes-Benz replacement parts and accessories, of course.
