The four-cylinder engine had four valves per cylinder (two intake and two exhaust valves) controlled by an overhead camshaft with vertical shaft drive. It was with three examples of this model that Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft achieved a triple victory in the French Grand Prix on 4 July 1914, in the sequence Christian Lautenschlager, Louis Wagner and Otto Salzer.
